History makers

Holland (or by it’s official name; the Netherlands) has a fantastic heritage when it comes to shipbuilding.

During the Dutch Golden Age of trade in the 1600s, half of all commercial cargo in the world was carried on vessels from Holland. It also has a rich history in terms of sailing for pleasure. The first yacht in the world was built in Holland in 1584 for the Dutch prince Maurits, the first marina was built in 1622 in Amsterdam and it may come as no surprise that the word yacht originally comes from the Dutch language.

Why head
for Holland?

Holland is world renowned as the home of premium quality yacht building and is the world’s third largest boat building nation for its size.

Astrong reputation for design and construction, along with an excellent English speaking workforce known for honesty and integrity, are just some of the reasons Dutch shipyards receive commissions from buyers across the globe. Many of the country’s yards are household names in the yachting world, including Feadship, Royal Huisman, Oceanco and Vitters. What’s more, all the Netherlands’ main suppliers are located within a short distance or each other. Holland is a small country and this incredibly productive industry is all within a 200 km radius. Access to the country is easy via the major European airport hub of Schiphol Amsterdam, making life simple for owners and their reps during build.

They are an excellent alternative to (GRP) production series yachts. The Embassy aims to guide brokers in finding the right yacht for their client. While there are models which have already proven their worth, there are also opportunities to benefit from Holland’s top naval architects and designers by building a yacht from scratch.
